Mark your calendars! Join us for the DTES Writers Festival opening event, Thursday, May 22: 1-2:30pm in the Carnegie Community Centre Theatre at 401 Main St (at Hastings) in Vancouver. Everyone welcome! Elder in Residence, Les Nelson will offer a welcome, Vancouver’s Poet Laureate Elee will do a short reading, as will DTES Writers Collective leader, author and reporter Gilles Cyrenne. paula luther (Typewriter Tales) will read from last year’s collective story. Come mingle with fellow poets, authors, and storytellers (and eat cake)!

The Carnegie Community Centre is located at 401 Main Street. The main cross roads are Main Street & Hastings Street.
Public Transit
The Translink SkyTrain and various buses are a convenient choice of transportation while visiting Carnegie Community Centre.
Main Street Science World SkyTrain station: On the Expo Line at Main St. and Terminal Ave. in Vancouver. Located 7 Blocks south of Carnegie Community Centre.
Parking
Metered street parking is available in the blocks surrounding Carnegie Community Centre. Please note, Carnegie Community Centre does not have a parking lot. There are pay parking lots available at 180 Keefer Street Vancouver, BC V6A 1X4 (Easy Park) and 268 Keefer Street Vancouver, BC V6A 1X5 (Impark).
Accessibility
Carnegie Community Centre received an RHF Rating: Accessibility Certified on March 12th, 2019. Elevator access is available from the main level to the Second and Third Floors as well as the Lane Level. Ramp access to Carnegie is through the Patio on the east side of the building. There is a call button to activate the Patio gate on the left side of the Patio entrance.
Washrooms
Wheelchair accessible washrooms are on the Main Level and Third Floor of Carnegie Community Centre. There are additional washrooms available on the Lane Level and the Second Floor. Please note the Lane Level washrooms have narrow 29″ doorways and may not accommodate mobility devices.
