We’re delighted Karen Parrish and Belzberg Library at SFU have partnered to hold this collaborative creation–and you are invited to take part!
Are you in grief? (Who isn’t?) Telling your story can help. Come tell me.
I am one of seven Citizen Poets representing the “Here, Hearing” legacy project of the Poet Laureate of the City of Vancouver, Elee Kraljii Gardiner. In 2023 I was a writer-in-residence at the Joy Kogawa House in Vancouver, and I currently serve as a Vancouver Grief Society group facilitator.
I invite you into one-on-one conversation (~20 min) in the Belzberg Library exploring the experience of grief, whether recent or long ago, personal, or related to climate or social events.
Conversations happen every Monday, October 6—November 17, 2025 at the SFU Belzberg Library, 515 W. Hastings St., Vancouver, from 11am-2pm.
Lines from our conversations will be woven into a single poem, strands of memories braided into an anonymous voice both singular and communal in expressing loss, grief, discovery, renewal, and love here in Vancouver.
This creative community art project is based on the power of listening and is voluntary. You may contribute anonymously or have your name included in the project.
Please note: this is not a therapeutic opportunity though sensitivity is a main component.
The creation of this community grief poem will be shared on a public audio playlist.
